Overview
Bulk materials have a natural tendency to stick to the sides of bins and silos. Over time this residue layer could harden, permanently reducing the natural orifice and restricting the flow of material. In severe cases the reduced orifice may lead to blockages that would not occur when the full outlet orifice is available. Periodic cleaning of this residue build-up is an expensive, difficult and time consuming exercise.
Residue is not the only problem that affects bulk material flow. Various characteristics of the actual bulk material can cause the formation of rat holes, bridging and plugging, thereby restricting or even halting the flow of the material.
SCUA provides effective solutions to these bulk material flow problems that occur in bins, chutes and silos. Our tried and tested solutions are based on cost effective and robust technology, designed to withstand the rigors of the mining industry. SCUA Pneumatic Knockers and SCUA Air Cannons each have only one moving part, thus requiring minimum effort and cost to operate and maintain.

Pneumatic Knockers
SCUA Pneumatic Knockers provide elastic shocks to the sides of bins and hoppers, ideal for preventing material from settling. Bridging, siphons and residue formation usually occur at or near the actual discharge points. Depending on size and configuration of the bin, chute or silo, a number of knockers could be fitted at trouble spots. Simply put, if the material may be brought to flow by use of a hammer, Pneumatic Knockers would be an effective option.
The Pneumatic Knocker is highly versatile as the percussion rate can be varied to suit a given application through adjusting the air flow/pressure from the control panel. Available in three sizes (40mm, 70mm and 100mm piston) Pneumatic Knockers can generally be used to achieve the desired result when high speed shakers and vibrators with soft sine shaped oscillation are no longer effective.

Air Cannons
SCUA Air Cannons are designed to enhance handling of a wide range of bulk materials, including alumina, animal feed, chloride, cement, chalk, coal, coke, dolomite, dust, grain, saw dust, salt, sugar, wood chips, crushed rock, sand, different types of ore, fertilizers, flour, and more. Air Cannons are effective in removing the common problems of plugging, rat holes and bridging. The number and size of Air Cannons required for any given application depends on bin, chute or silo size and the bulk material type. SCUA Air Cannons are available with 50, 100 and 200 liter air tanks.
The Air Cannon prevents blockages and restrictions through an empirically established blasting sequence. Bins, chutes or silos should be free from packed-up material before fitting Air Cannons. Relatively easy to install and safe to operate, Air Cannons do not have to be removed from the point of installation for routine maintenance.

System Automation
SCUA Material Flow Systems are fully automatic and programmed or set to client requirements. In most applications the ideal percussion or blast rates, which depend on material type and chute or silo size, will be programmed into the control panel. In the case of Pneumatic Knockers simple installations can be done without a control panel through a direct link to plant air, activation being controlled manually via an in-line hand valve.
